Andalucía
Andalucía stands where the Mediterranean sea meets the Atlantic Ocean and Europe gives way to Africa. The region is strongly affected by 800 years of

Moorish rule, which is reflected in the names of villages and rivers, in the architecture, language and music. Within the borders of Andalucía you will find cultural treasures like the cathedral in Seville, the Alcazar Palace, Granada and Alhambra situated at the foot of Sierra Nevada. Here you also find Cordoba, and Cadiz one of the oldest towns in all of Europe.
But Andalucía also offers small mountain villages, national parks sunflower fields, ski resorts – and of course the famous “tourist mega polis” Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz.
Andalucía is one of the poorest provinces of Spain, still much of a peasant society. Just 50 years ago people where starving, and still today you can see the signs of the Franco dictatorship in the crooked legs of the old men and in the illiteracy of the old women. Since 1975, when Spain became a democracy, the country and its people have raised from poverty and underdevelopment to become a modern nation within the EU.
